Power outages affected meat trade

In the third decade of October, prices in the live market continued to decline, ProAgro Group reports with reference to the information of the Pig Breeders of Ukraine Association.

The last auction again adjusted the purchase prices of slaughter pigs downward by 1.5-4 UAH/kg against previous figures. In particular, last week the purchase of pigs in the Center was mainly carried out at 70-72 UAH/kg, in the West prices ranged from 68-70 UAH/kg. The largest price range was observed in the eastern regions – from 68 to 72 UAH/kg. The weighted average market price shifted by 3.9% compared to the previous week and amounted to 69.42 UAH/kg.

The reason for the significant discrepancy in prices in the eastern regions is the limited supply of slaughter pigs, which keeps prices at an elevated level, while the lower price threshold reflects the change in consumer activity due to increased migration of the population with increased military aggression. In addition, as in other regions, frequent air raids and rolling blackouts create significant difficulties for the sale of pork.

According to meat processors, the retail trade of chilled meat has shifted from weekly orders to 2-3 day purchases, and the forced “pauses” in work significantly complicate the formation and observance of delivery schedules.
