Sugar industry will be saved by raw sugar and working group

As of November 18, 10.3 million tons of sugar beet have been harvested in Ukraine from 96% of the harvested area with an average yield of 470.7 c/ha, the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy informs. In Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zhytomyr, Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv and Chernivtsi oblasts the harvesting is completed, and the highest average yield of 557.9 c/ha was recorded in Lviv region.

The optimistic forecasts for the current season show that the domestic sugar output will reach 1.45 million tons, which is enough to cover the domestic demand, which is currently estimated at 1.25-1.3 million tons. On the other hand, there is nothing to dream about large export reserves, as it was in more favorable years for the industry. The question remains open as well, how much sugar will cost, because due to the rapid rise in price of natural gas the cost of white crystals has increased significantly.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy by its order established a working group on the development of sugar industry, among whose tasks – to submit proposals on the elaboration of regulatory legal acts and to process the information on problematic issues. And the Ministry of Economy announced that as early as January 5 it will begin to accept applications under the distribution of tariff quotas for the import of raw cane sugar to Ukraine in the amount of 267.8 thousand tons for 2022.
