UGA reduced its grain and oilseeds harvest forecast by 5 million tons

The Ukrainian Grain Association has updated its harvest forecast for the current year, reducing it to 64.5 million tons, ProAgro Group reported, citing UGA information.

The Association recalled that the previous harvest forecast was 69.4 million tons, and the decrease was primarily due to the reduction of the area, which can be harvested, by almost 1 million hectares, down to 18 million hectares.

“Despite the persistence and courage of Ukrainian farmers, there are objective obstacles to harvesting on mined, occupied areas and destroyed crops,” the UGA stressed.

Therefore, according to the updated forecast of the Association we can expect the harvest of wheat in Ukraine this year to be 19 million tons, barley – 5.4 million tons and corn – 24 million tons. As for oilseeds, the forecast of sunflower harvest is 9 million tons, rapeseed – 3 million tons, soybeans – 2.2 million tons.

At the same time, UGA noted that grain exports from Ukraine in 2022/23 marketing year may reach 32.8 million tons, preserving the sea route of exports and expanding the capacity of Ukrainian border crossings.

So, taking into account the available transition stocks, the export of wheat in the current season could reach 10 million tons, barley – 2 million tons, corn – 10 million tons, sunflower seed – 6 million tons, rapeseed – 2.8 million tons, soybeans – 1.8 million tons.
