Ukraine will secure export of 30 million tons of grain

Ukraine in the conditions of aggressive war waged by Russia, despite the occupation of territories and booby-trapped fields, thanks to the courage of Ukrainian farmers will be self-sufficient in grain and will be able to export part of its harvest to the world market.

So, this year, Ukraine can harvest about 66.5 million tons of grain and oilseeds from an area of about 18.8 million hectares, ProAgro Group reports, citing information from the Ukrainian Grain Association.

Grain and oilseed exports in 2022/23 MY can be expected at 30 million tons, if Ukraine, under the blockade of Black Sea ports can double the capacity of other logistical directions, including railway crossings on the borders with the EU countries. Today the throughput capacity of alternative routes is no more than 1.5 million tons per month.

Ukraine and partner countries, also the EU at all levels, are working to increase the capacity of alternative logistic routes, removing all bureaucratic and technical obstacles. In order for Ukraine to reach the export figure of 30 million tons, it is necessary to increase the capacity at the EU borders to 3 million tons per month.

“Ukraine is guaranteed to have sufficient grain reserves at a time when the countries of the world will be short of grain from Ukraine because of Russia’s war against Ukraine, leading to higher prices and food inflation even in developed countries. The shortage and high cost of food could cause, according to UN estimates, starvation in many poor countries of the world, mass protests and riots, and as a consequence, mass migration of people from Africa and the Middle East to the EU,” the UGA noted.
