UN Expects significant growth in Ukrainian grain exports

The United Nations, which monitors the implementation of the “Istanbul agreement” on the export of Ukrainian grain, expects a significant increase in the number of vessels interested in the growth of such exports and the goal of 2-5 million tons per month is “achievable.

This was stated by the UN interim coordinator at the Joint Coordination Center in Istanbul, Frederick Kenney, reports ProAgro Group, citing Reuters.

“We expect a significant increase in the number of shipping requests,” he said.

The number of ships bound for Ukrainian ports is expected to increase when grain sales are agreed upon.

“Early next week we will do a comprehensive review of procedures to see what needs to be adjusted and improved,” Kenney said.

He said the current priority is to free up berths at the three ports covered by the agreement — Odessa, Chernomorsk and Yuzhny — so new ships can come in and load cargo. While there have been no shipments of wheat, ships are leaving with corn, soybeans, sunflower oil and shot.
