China is set to intensify its struggle for future crops

China will stabilize corn production and expand soybean production in 2022 to ensure the country’s food security.

ProAgro Group reports this, citing Reuters.

“The provincial agriculture departments should devote all their efforts to grain production, fight desperately, with extraordinary strength,” Chinese Agriculture Minister Tang Renjian stressed in an interview to People’s Daily.

The official stressed that meeting the country’s needs for grain and processed products is the Communist Party’s “main task and top priority.”

It is noted that China is extremely concerned about its own food security as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt food supply chains and logistics around the world.

China is increasing grain imports this season to ensure food consumption and produce enough feed for its growing livestock sector.

Earlier it was reported that China has accumulated more than half of the world’s reserves of wheat, corn and rice in the current season due to active imports, which was one of the factors of rise in world grain prices.
