EU to consider providing Ukraine with temporary grain storage facilities

The EU governments will consider providing Ukraine with temporary grain storage facilities, which should significantly help to preserve the harvest and ensure future supplies of grain to the world markets. ProAgro Group reports this, citing information from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

“With the current low rate of exports, Ukraine could get a deficit of 10-15 million tons of storage for the harvest. Before the war, the total storage capacity was 75 million tons of grain, but today there are only 60 million tons of storage left – the rest was lost as a result of the destruction and temporary occupation. Therefore, we have an urgent need for the arrangement of temporary grain storage facilities – modular structures and polyethylene bags,” – outlined the situation, Deputy Minister Markiyan Dmytrasevich, who spoke at a meeting of the EU Council on Agriculture and Fisheries.

According to him, functional phytosanitary and veterinary laboratories at the Danube port of Izmail and sufficient laboratory equipment at the border crossings that are in transit will help accelerate the export of Ukrainian products.

Markiyan Dmytrasevych thanked for political, humanitarian, military and financial support, which is currently provided by the EU states, and urged not to stop arms supplies to Ukraine, as “only support for the territorial integrity of our state is a guarantee of global food security”.
