Pig prices in Ukraine are 20-30% higher than in the EU

Pig prices during the whole year 2021 in Ukraine were record high and 20-30% higher in comparison to EU countries. High pig prices in Ukraine caused an increase of pork imports by 45% in 2021.

In 2022, the prices of pigs in Ukraine remain higher by 20-30% for the EU countries, according to “ProAgro Group” citing information from the Association “Meat Industry”.

Tough competition in the global market of meat trade encourages Ukrainian producers to reduce the cost of raising pigs at least to the level of the EU countries – 35 UAH/kg (25 UAH/kg in 2020 and earlier).

“Against the backdrop of a global rise in food prices – food becomes as hard currency as oil and gas. Reducing the cost of production opens the way for Ukrainian enterprises to the global market, creating new jobs and filling the economy with billions of euros annually,” the association noted.
