A U.S. government source has said that the United States has evidence of the destruction by Russian troops of granaries in eastern Ukraine. The official said this while commenting on photos of such destruction, ProAgro Group reported, citing Reuters.
In particular, two black-and-white photos show long rectangular buildings in eastern Ukraine that were still intact in January, and then the same buildings are shown with damaged roofs and “strike craters” in March.
“As of late March, at least six grain storage facilities had been damaged in the attacks,” the official said.
The agency notes that this development comes at a time when governments around the world are concerned about the impact of the invasion of Ukraine, the world’s fourth-largest grain exporter for the 2020/21 season, on the global food supply.
“Russia’s reckless damage to these grain silos is a prime example of how Putin’s war directly affects Ukrainian civilians and threatens food security around the world,” the official said.
