The Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment report prepared by the Ukrainian government, the European Commission and the World Bank states that the total cost of the war for Ukrainian agriculture is estimated at more than 30 billion euros.

According to “ProAgro Group” with reference to PaySpace Magazine, as of June 1, 2022, the war in Ukraine has caused total losses to the agricultural sector in the amount of more than 2 billion euros, including the destruction of equipment, storage facilities, livestock and perennial crops.

Losses from mines on agricultural land are not included in the agricultural sector data. An estimated 13% of Ukraine’s territory is contaminated and the cost of land decontamination, including demining, could exceed €72 billion.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has resulted in a 20% reduction in total sown area compared to 2021, and 15% of agricultural fixed assets have already been damaged after the first three months of the war. The harvest of grains and oilseeds in 2022 is projected to decline by 40% year-on-year.

According to the report, the current cost of full reconstruction and recovery of Ukraine is 349 billion euros. Over the next 36 months, 105 billion euros will be needed to rebuild education and health systems, infrastructure, heating and energy supply to homes, to support agriculture and to repair vital transport routes.
