UN offers Russia to ease sanctions in exchange for sea corridor for Ukrainian grain exports

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has suggested easing sanctions against potash fertilizers from Russia and Belarus in exchange for Moscow unblocking the possibility of exporting grain from Ukraine through the Black Sea ports. This was reported by the Wall Street Journal, reports ProAgro Group.

According to the newspaper’s sources, Guterres is in talks with Russia, Turkey and other countries to resume grain exports from Ukraine to world markets. Thus the UN secretary general wants to prevent a global food shortage.

According to the newspaper’s interlocutors, Guterres has asked Moscow to allow deliveries of Ukrainian grain. In exchange, the UN secretary-general offered to soften sanctions against the export of potash fertilizers from Russia and Belarus.

The Ukrainian and Russian representations to the UN declined to comment. The Turkish embassy in the USA also refused to answer the newspaper’s questions.

Earlier, the UN called on the Russian Federation to unblock 4.5 million tons of grain in Ukrainian ports, noting that “hunger should not be a weapon”.
